Remembrance Day

Thank you to Mr. Morin for organizing a lovely Remembrance Day Assembly.  I was very proud of my class for being so well behaved throughout the entire assembly.

Our class has been focusing on PEACE and how we can work together to create PEACE and spread it around.  Students worked hard on their "Recipe for Peace" and "Peace Pledge" Writing / Art Activities.  They are displayed in the hallway. Check them out when you come in for your conference!

Math: Data Management

Data management begins with the gathering of information through questions and surveys.  We have been organizing and recording the data in a variety of ways (e.g., bar graphs, picture graphs, concrete/real graphs, tally marks, etc) and then analyzing and interpreting the results.

Our Gummy Bear graphing activities included sorting gummy bears by colour, counting and recording the number of gummy bears in each group and representing that number in tally marks, creating a concrete graph using the gummy bears, and then transferring that data onto a bar graph.  Students were able look at their bar graph and determine which colour group had the most gummy bears and which colour group had the least gummy bears.  Students enjoyed eating their gummy bears once their graphing activities were completed.

A special shout out to Malcolm who took the initiative to sort his Halloween Treats into groups and then tally the number of treats in each group.  Malcolm brought in his data collection from home to show the class and we had fun analyzing his data.

Flower Patterning Problem

Students worked in small groups to solve the following problem...

I see 12 flowers in my garden.  The 1st flower is RED.  The 2nd flower is YELLOW.  The 3rd flower is BLUE.  If this pattern continues, what colour will the 12th flower be?  (Show your thinking using pictures, words and/or numbers).

Groups used different math manipulatives (e.g., dominoes, cubes, teddy bears, links, etc) to create a model of the flower garden pattern.

Black, Orange & Purple Halloween Fun!
