We were able to make text-to-text connections between this book and "Wemberly Worried" by Kevin Henkes. We also had a great discussion about our Character Trait of the Month (CARING) and how Jo, Rita and Victoria were not very caring characters in this story. They spent most of the story taunting and teasing Chrysanthemum about her name. They were "bucket dippers" because they were not making Chrysanthemum feel good about herself.
Students followed up this read-aloud with a name flower craft. Our name flowers are displayed in the hall.
We are working on printing our names beginning with an uppercase letter, followed by all lowercase letters. (E.g., Jessica.... not JEssIcA) Please help your child get in the habit of writing their name properly and forming the letters correctly.
